**Rev. Sidney "Mac" Johnson, 98**

Rev. Sidney "Mac" Johnson, 98, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2025, in St. Helens, Oregon in his daughter's home. Born on January 28, 1927, in Cullman, Alabama, Mac's life was a testament to unwavering faith, boundless compassion, and a deep commitment to serving others.

From humble beginnings as a sharecropper's son in rural Alabama, Mac's journey led him to a life of global impact and spiritual leadership. It was during his college years at Anderson College that he met the love of his life, Jean Ratzlaff—a moment he often described as love at first sight. Their partnership would become the foundation of a remarkable ministry that spanned continents and touched countless lives.

Together, Mac and Jean served under the Missionary Board of the Church of God for 37 years. As a devoted team, they ministered in 25 countries across Asia, Africa, South America, and the Middle East. Their work focused on empowering women and children and strengthening local churches through outreach and growth initiatives. Their shared mission was not only about spreading faith but also about embodying it through acts of service and compassion.

In 1992, after decades abroad, Mac and Jean founded *Children of Promise*, an organization dedicated to supporting vulnerable children around the world through education, nutrition, healthcare, and spiritual guidance. What began as a vision rooted in love has grown into a global movement now active in 34 countries and serving over 15,000 children—an enduring legacy of their lifelong dedication to uplifting others.

Mac was known for his warm heart and infectious humor. He never missed an opportunity to share a funny story—often at his own expense—and was always ready with a hug for anyone who needed one. His soul radiated kindness; whether with strangers or close friends, he made people feel seen and valued. Those who knew him speak of his deep spirituality and his ability to reflect God's love through simple yet profound acts of generosity.

During his final days, he expressed peace with his journey's end—looking forward to being reunited with Jean once more—and asked that those he loved celebrate not just his passing but the fullness of a life well lived.

May the memory of Rev. Sidney "Mac" Johnson continue to inspire all who were touched by his life—a life defined by faithfulness, humility, joy, and an unshakable belief in the power of love to change the world. A Celebration of Life will be held on November 8, 2025, from 02:00 PM to 03:30 PM at Park Place Church of God 501 College Drive in Anderson. Mac requested donations or sponsorships be made to Children of Promise.
