Send Flowers Plant A Tree
On November 16, 2025, in the light of the crescent moon, Stephen Francis Flynn passed away peacefully in his sleep. He had given us years of beautiful memories that we will cherish forever. Steve was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend who will be incredibly missed by those who knew and loved him.

Steve was a record-holding, long-distance and cross-country runner at the United States Military Academy at West Point and a New York City Marathoner. Running was in his blood. In addition to graduating from West Point in 1973, Steve received two graduate degrees from the University of Oklahoma. He attained the rank of Captain in the U.S. Army, serving at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, for 5 years.

After the military, Steve worked for Philip Morris, Inc. and Goldman Sachs, Inc. in New York City. He then founded Phoenix Group International, a highly regarded executive recruiting firm for 40 years, specializing in the financial sector. He retired in January 2025.

After living in New York City and New Jersey for 18 years, Steve, his wife Joanne, and daughter Elyse moved to Scottsdale, Arizona, where they loved the weather and the lifestyle.

Steve was born in Omaha, Nebraska, and grew up in the Chicago and San Francisco areas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Martha Lennea Larson Flynn and Virgil Leon Flynn. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Joanne Toth Flynn; his daughter, Elyse Lennea Flynn Meyer; his son-in-law, Richard Meyer; his granddaughter, Lennea Helen Meyer, of Scottsdale, Arizona.

Steve enjoyed keeping up his Peloton bike-riding streak with Elyse, maintaining his daily workouts, traveling, visiting Sedona, AZ, reading to his granddaughter, playing checkers with her, and enjoying the mountain views from his home.

If you are interested in donating to an organization in memory of Steve, he always supported the St. Mary's Food Bank.
