Steven Arthur Hurlburt, 73, passed away at his home in Phoenix, Arizona, on November 8, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on January 30, 1952, in Davenport, Iowa, Steve built a life filled with laughter, loyalty, and heart.
For decades, Steve dedicated himself to his career at McLane, where his work ethic and leadership left a lasting mark on so many. He also helped kickstart a golf tournament in collaboration with the Phoenix Children's Hospital (one of his proudest accomplishments). But what truly defined him was his larger-than-life personality, the kind that filled up any room he walked into. He had a gift for making others smile and was devoted to being the biggest and loudest presence wherever he went. His energy, humor, and wisdom inspired everyone around him to rise to their best and so many are better because of it.
Steve cherished the simple joys of life — a cigar on the patio overlooking the lake, coffee with two Sweet'n Lows (the older the better), and the thrill of his stack of Christmas gifts. He loved music, history, boat rides, cheering for the underdog, and every small moment that made life feel connected. Above all, he deeply valued and cherished his family.
Steven was preceded in death by his parents, Art and Helen Hurlburt.
He is survived by his wife and lifelong companion, Nancy Hurlburt; his son Justin Hurlburt and daughter-in-law Chelsea Hurlburt; his daughter Sam Hecker and son-in-law Scott Hecker; and his beloved grandchildren Adalyn, Bradley, Emily, and Lexi. He is also survived by his loving Godmother, Aunt Clara, brothers Bob and Dave Hurlburt, and his sister Barb Kobe, along with their families, all of whom he loved deeply.
Steve's legacy lives on in the laughter he sparked, the lessons he taught, and the love he poured into his family and friends. His voice, humor, and encouragement will echo in the hearts of all who were lucky enough to exist in his orbit.
