Susan Pauline Mackey

Susan Pauline Mackey passed away on August 1, 2025, at her home in Aurora, CO at the age of 70.

She was born September 6, 1954, in Ontario, California to Gene and Joan Mackey (Montgomery). She spent her childhood years in Montclair and North Hollywood, CA, then lived in Newport Beach and Oceanside, CA, and spent the last 21 years of her life in Aurora, CO. Susan developed a talent in art and design. She attended California State University at Northridge and pursued a career in interior design for more than 30 years, and sales where she excelled, receiving accolades as highest sales producer in various industries over five decades.

Susan enjoyed cooking, skiing, traveling, art museums, tennis, and shopping, but mostly spending holidays, special occasions, and fun times with friends and family. Susan maintained long-standing relationships with childhood friends, and always made new friends in the different places where she lived. She was the person who checked in with family members regularly. Susan continued to send cards through the mail to all of her friends and family for special occasions, holidays, and birthdays. She remained in contact with extended family and friends, not through social media, but through real connections.

She took great pride in her home and spent countless hours decorating her home and garden and kept her passion for interior design by helping friends and family.

Most importantly, Susan was an exceptional human being. She was an eternal optimist and lived her life with a positive attitude. And whatever she was doing, whether it was cooking, decorating, or helping her friends/family, she did it with enthusiasm and to the best of her ability. She truly appreciated life, showering people and events with her trademark saying of "this is so fabulous!" She would walk into a room with so much energy and full of life, ready to have fun, lend a hand, or help out with everything she had. She was a loving person, never acting with ill intent or ulterior motives. She was always there to support her friends and family during the highs and lows of life, whether in her cherished role as big sister or as the caretaker for her mom. She made others feel better just being around her.

Susan was dearly loved and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her brothers Michael Mackey (Paulette) and James Mackey (Sherri); Sisters Nancy Alvarez (Rick) and Patricia Alvarez Valverde (Sal); Aunt Sarah Jane Beamon (Craig); Nephews Scott Mackey, Sean Mackey (Jael), Felix Valverde, Lance Hsu; Nieces Paloma Valverde and Sierra Hsu, Great Nephew Sonny Mackey, and many cherished cousins and friends.
