Suzi Evelove Baker, 74, of Pacific Grove, California, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2025. She was a woman whose love of language, literature, and animals touched everyone fortunate enough to know her.

A graduate of the Monterey Institute of International Studies, Middlebury College, and the Sorbonne in Paris, Suzi was a passionate lover of language and reading who turned that passion into a life of purpose. She taught English as a second language in Paris at a telecommunications university. Living in Paris for close to 20 years, she also worked as a translator on books, articles, screenplays, and films, bridging cultures and stories with grace and expertise. Some of her proud accomplishments include authoring an unpublished cookbook, converting beloved American recipes to translate easily into French cooking, as well as writing entries for a bilingual French/English dictionary. Later in life, she became quite fluent in Spanish.

Suzi had a deep love for cats and horses, and her quietly sharp sense of humor could catch you off guard and make you smile when you least expected it. She was an enthusiastic cook who delighted in good food and the joy of sharing meals with others. Her friends reminisce about the decadence of her dinner parties. Those who knew her will remember how her smile could light up a room, and how her generous spirit and unwavering loyalty made her an extraordinary friend.

Suzi is survived by her husband Scott Baker, her niece Jenny, her nephew Matt, and their children.

Her legacy of generosity, intellect, and genuine connection will be deeply missed and long remembered. May we all carry forward the warmth and kindness she brought into our lives.
