Thad Barclay Garner, aged 88, of Tuscaloosa passed away on November 7, 2025. Born on April 14, 1937, Thad was a man celebrated for his kindness, generosity, and notably quick wit.
Thad honorably served in the United States Air Force, stationed in Germany, where he dedicated himself to his duties with integrity and valor. Following his military service, he embarked on a successful career in insurance sales with Prudential, achieving membership in the Million Dollar Roundtable, a testament to his professional excellence and commitment.
Educated at Arcadia Elementary, Tuscaloosa High School, and the University of Alabama Business School,Thad was a member of the First Baptist Church of Tuscaloosa.
Thad was a passionate enthusiast of bluegrass music and played the stand up base with the band the "Just Right Boys". He spent many a Sunday night with his friends playing music at the black warrior river. He enjoyed good food and the occasional Old Forester. Thad loved everything to do with cars, boats and motorcycles. He was also a proud previous owner of the Bama Belle Riverboat.
He is survived by his daughter, Wendy Glaze (Grayson); son, Walter Garner; sister, Dr. SJ Garner; grandsons, Carlton Sims and Wilson Glaze (Catherine); granddaughters, Madelyne Garner and Caroline Glaze; great-grandsons, James Sims, Walker Glaze, and Harvey Glaze; and nephews, Paul Garner (Jana) and Rush Garner (Christy). Thad was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. and Mrs. Paul Garner, and his brother, Walter Garner.
A family graveside service will be held in December at Tuscaloosa Memorial Park, where Thad will be laid to rest. Contributions may be made to the William F Green Veterans Home in Bay Minette, Alabama, honoring Thad's legacy of service and care for fellow veterans. Thad's life, marked by his service, faith, and love for his family and community, leaves a lasting legacy that will be cherished and remembered by all who knew him.
