Thomas Howard Beigel

Thomas Howard Beigel tragically and unexpectedly left this world at his cherished home on August 21, 2025. Born on December 19, 1973, in Silver Spring, MD, Tom's spirit was one that brightened the lives of all who knew him.
He is survived by his devoted fiancée, Laura Coulson of Conowingo, whose love illuminated his life; his caring mother, Carol Beigel, and stepmother, Martha Gay; his beloved grandfather, Russell Robertson; his aunt Nancy Beigel and her partner, James Saunders, as well as three uncles and two cherished nephews. Sadly, he was predeceased by his father, Fred Beigel, and his sister, Amy Russell, who left an indelible mark on his heart.
Tom's educational journey led him to the University of Maryland in College Park. He proudly earned his Bachelor's degree in Fire Protection Engineering in 1997 and later earned a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering in 2001.
In 2002, Tom began his fulfilling career as a lecturer at the A. James Clark School of Engineering. His passion for teaching started as a Teaching Assistant for Advanced Strength of Materials, showing his early love for teaching and sincere desire to help others and those around him learn and succeed in engineering. In 2006, he became a full-time Instructor for the Keystone Program, where he helped transform the lives of countless students, who fondly remember him as an enthusiastic mentor and a guiding light in their pursuit of engineering excellence. Tom's impact resonated deeply among his students, many of whom have blossomed into successful engineers under his guidance.
Beyond academia, Tom was a passionate gamer who reveled in the immersive worlds of Dungeons and Dragons and a variety of board games. He also enjoyed watching Strongman competitions, Jeopardy, and the intricate art of Weaponsmithing.
A Celebration of Life will be held on November 4, 2025 at 4:00 PM at the University of Maryland, where family, friends, and colleagues will gather to honor and remember the vibrant spirit of Thomas Howard Beigel. Tom's legacy of love, laughter, and learning will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him.

He was deeply committed to enhancing the quality of undergraduate education within the Clark School, and the program reflects his passion for supporting and inspiring the next generation of engineers.
