Thomas Garver

Thomas K. Garver (Tom), 81, of Rochester, NY, died Thursday, September 18th a week before his 82nd birthday.
Born in Coatesville, PA in 1943 to parents Esther Null and Ira Garver, Tom was educated at Drew University and Columbia University. He is survived by his brother, Larry, as well as his six children and several grandchildren including Michael (wife Susan, Caleb and Eden, children), Jennifer, Matthew (wife Jenny, Keegan, Brady, and Layla, children), Adam (wife Erika), Joshua (wife Becca, James, child), and Daniel (wife Audrey, Odysseus and Aramis, children). He is predeceased by his partner, Alice Viele.
A lover of history and sports, Tom could often be found reading or listening to historical nonfiction (especially if it was about the French and Indian War or Ulysses S. Grant), or watching his favorite teams the Buffalo Bills, the Buffalo Sabres, and the Philadelphia Phillies. Tom was especially fond of author James Lee Burke and his titular characters Dave Robicheaux and Clete Purcell, with whom he closely related. Some of Tom's favorite places included Fort Ticonderoga, Lake Placid, and Saratoga, where he would probably spend more than he should have betting on the horses.
There are no planned services. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Tom's name to Fort Ticonderoga, the Genesee Country Village and Museum, and Heritage Christian Services.
