Vernon John McGrath

Vernon John McGrath, 84, our beloved Dad, Papa, brother, uncle, and friend, went home to be with the Lord on October 2, 2025.

Born on December 1, 1940, in Fitchburg, MA, he was the son of the late Henry Vernon McGrath and Veronica (Machonis) McGrath.

Vern was a man of strength, humor, and generosity. He taught his child and grandchildren the importance of family, hard work, and doing what is right. He was a dedicated stone mason for over 60 years, known for his excellent craftsmanship and strong work ethic.

In his free time, Vern enjoyed working out at the gym five days a week and watching Patriots, Celtics, and Bruins games. Every summer, he spent his weekends at the beach with family and friends. His love for travel was something he shared with his wife and daughter, creating many fond memories through the years.

He cherished time with his grandsons, Andrew and Nathaniel, whether playing a game of cards or checkers at the table, tossing a baseball in the yard, or making them laugh heartily with his well-timed wit and trademark deadpan humor.

He is survived by his daughter, Nicole Picard, and her husband, Justan; his grandchildren, Andrew and Nathaniel Picard; his brothers Donald and Richard McGrath (and Richard's wife, Laura); his nephews Richie McGrath (and wife Jordan) and Greg McGrath (and wife Sarah); his niece Bryana LaBell (and husband Tyler); his great-nephew Jaxson; and many other cousins, family, and friends. He is now reunited in heaven with his wife of 39 years, Patricia (Popko) McGrath.

His legacy of love, humor, and loyalty will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
