It is with love and fond remembrance that we announce the passing of our dear husband and father, Vince Skarban, who was born in Limerick, Saskatchewan, on July 26, 1937, and passed away on November 12, 2025.
From an early age, our Dad demonstrated a strong work ethic and curiosity about the world—qualities that would define his life. At just 17, he began what became a long and fulfilling career with the Bank of Montreal. His work took him to various places throughout the prairies, landing him in Manitoba, where he met the love of his life, Valerie. Together, they welcomed their daughter, Sheryl, before moving east to Ontario in 1971, where Dad continued his career until his retirement. After settling in Ontario, their family grew with the arrival of their second daughter, Melissa. He took great pride in his work and cherished the friendships and memories he made along the way.
Dad was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather—a steady and caring provider who worked hard to ensure his family was always supported and loved. He was immensely proud of his daughters, Sheryl and Melissa, and took great joy in their accomplishments and the lives they built. As a grandfather to Nicholas, he was guiding, loving, proud, and endlessly supportive, always encouraging him in everything he did. His pride in his family was matched only by the deep love and admiration he had for his wife, Valerie, whom he had loved for 67 years (married for 63 years).
He was a man of conversation and connection. With a deep curiosity and a sharp mind, he could discuss just about any topic that caught his interest. In his younger years, he was known for his hospitality—hosting lively barbeques filled with laughter, good food, and even better company.
A devoted sports fan, Dad rarely missed a CFL game, often rooting for the Toronto Argos, though the Saskatchewan Roughriders always held a special place in his heart. He also cheered on the Toronto Blue Jays, often with Valerie by his side. When not watching sports, he could often be found enjoying educational programs, always eager to learn something new.
Dad also loved to travel—whether somewhere new or going back to his hometown, he cherished the experiences, people, and stories that came with each journey.
He will be deeply missed by his beloved, Valerie; daughters Sheryl (Chris) and Melissa (Don); grandson Nicholas; sister Jean; brother David; sisters-in-law Anna and Eunice; his nieces and nephews; numerous cousins, and the many friends and colleagues whose lives he touched with warmth, wit, and wisdom.
A life well-lived, a man well-loved—his spirit will live on in all who knew him.
As per Dad’s wishes, a private service has been held. In his memory, donations can be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation.
