Vincent Small Sr.

Vincent Edward Small Sr., son, brother, father, grandfather and child of God, was born April 22, 1971 to John and Ladye Small in Gary, Indiana. Vincent accepted Christ at an early age and reaffirmed his commitment in 1990. Vincent slipped away and peacefully entered eternal rest November 04, 2025. Vincent graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1989 and immediately joined the United States Marine Corps. Vincent bravely and honorably served a four year enlistment as a Field Radio Operations Specialist where he was awarded the Marksman Rifle badge, Sharpshooter Pistol badge, National Defense Service medal, Meritorious Unit commendation, Letter of Appreciation and Good Conduct medal. Vincent was later employed with Majestic Star Casino as a Security Supervisor for 17 years and lastly as a Machine Operator with Polycon Industries Incorporation.
Vincent was affectionately known by his immediate family as "Mai Main," his casino family as "Vinnie or Pretty Vinnie," and his children and grandchildren affectionately called him "Pops" and "Papa." Vincent had a love for music, and a unique ability to recite every word of a song, rap lyric or movie. Vincent was gifted in math and enjoyed working with numbers. Vincent loved spending time with his family and was known to make the best taco salad, rib tips and serve his signature cocktail, as only he could. Vincent was a cheerful giver and was willing to give his last. Vincent was a quiet storm and enjoyed a spirited debate. Vincent loved his family, he was a very proud father who cherished his relationships with his children and their relationships with one another. Vincent took pride in being a loving uncle and cherished the support of young friend, Deon Newell. Vincent will be truly missed, but never forgotten, as he lives on in hearts and souls. We will miss hearing him say his favorite phrase, "It is what it is."
Vincent is preceded in death by his loving parents, John and Ladye Small, and best friend, Kendall Austin. Vincent leaves to cherish his legacy of memories: his siblings Rosie Allen Thompson (Lucious), Wendell Small, Cheryl Kuykendall (Cedric), Ronald Small, Deborah Jones (Toriano) and Darryl Small; his children, Vincent Small Jr., Jalen Small, Javonte Small, Jada Small and Jordan Small; his grandchildren, Adilyn Small, Nariyah Small, Namora Small, Alena Small and soon to arrive, Jalen Small Jr., as well as a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
