Walter “Walt” A Thayer, 73, of Bremen, Georgia, passed away peacefully on October 21, 2025, after a brief battle with an aggressive cancer. A devoted husband, father, brother, patriot, and friend, Walt will forever be remembered for his unwavering strength, generosity, and commitment to those he loved.

Born on March 30, 1952, in Oakland, California, Walt was the son of the late Geraldine "Gerrie" Klatt and Raymond Thayer. He grew up surrounded by a close-knit family and shared a lifelong bond with his siblings Joann Thayer, Bill Thayer and Carrie Bell. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1973, where he specialized in field artillery. His leadership, dedication and integrity led him to rise through the ranks, retiring honorably as First Sergeant Thayer in 1994 after more than two decades of faithful service to his country. One of the highlights from this era of Walt’s life was traveling the world with his three daughters Jaime, Wendy, and Toni – he was a guiding force in their lives; instilling love, morals and strong values they could carry a lifetime.

Following his military retirement, Walt relocated to the East Coast, embarking on a second career in construction. He took great pride in his craftsmanship, building homes that stood as a reflection of his skill and work ethic.

In 1997, Walt remarried to Beverly, and had the privilege of welcoming two stepsons, Jarrod and Adam Hayes, and grew to love them as his own.

Walt found great joy in the simple things—hunting, fishing, woodworking, motorcycle rides, and long drives. He loved country music and holiday gatherings surrounded by family and good food. He was known by many as a provider, a teacher, and a steadfast friend who could always be counted on to lend a helping hand or words of wisdom - A man with a heart as big as his presence.

Walt also gave back to his community through volunteer work at the Veterans Affairs and through his involvement with the Gold Wing Motorcycle Club.

Walt is survived by his wife, Beverly; daughters Jaime (Will), Wendy, and Toni; stepsons Jarrod (Janelle) and Adam (Sean); siblings Joann, Bill (Phyllis), and Carrie; grandchildren Tim, Vanessa, Emilio (Mey), Jayden (Dorrien), Deagen, Isabelle, MacKenzie, and Vivienne; great-grandchildren Tyler and Charlotte.

The family is devastated at the sudden loss of their beloved husband, father, and brother. We will continue to seek solace from the Lord and carry on with the beautiful memories he created with us all.

Celebration of life services to be announced.
