September 24, 1964 — October 2, 2025
Dallas, Texas
It is with heavy hearts that we share that our beloved William "Chip" Donald Chalkley, age 61, passed away on the second of October, 2025. Chip was a free spirit, a lifelong lover of music, and the only person who could ever make a New York strip taste that good. To truly know him was to become a part of his orbit—to listen to music a bit more intently, to be immersed in his propensity to never stop learning or questioning.
Above all, he was a beloved husband, father, and friend—the type of person who was there for those he loved and for the world beyond—for animals and for strangers alike. Chip is survived by his wife and the love of his life, Trisha Lynne Chalkley; his precious daughter, Madeline Mae Chalkley; and by his friends—who, to Chip, were an extension of his family. He is preceded in death by his mother, Mary Katherine Wonderly; his grandparents, Donald E. and Ruby Mae Vrooman; and his uncle, John Vrooman.
Chip had a natural, contagious curiosity about the world—an attribute that was both engaging and endearing. His inquisitive spirit and love of learning were evident early on, culminating in his graduation from Samuell High School in Dallas, Texas, in 1983. From there, he attended Stephen F. Austin State University, where his dedication to academic excellence earned him a regular place on the Dean's List. At SFA, Chip expanded upon his passion for literature, ultimately graduating with dual degrees in English and History.
For over 30 years, Chip worked for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas and succeeded as a supervisor in the Output Data Services division. When asked, his favorite part of his job was the people he worked with. His care and empathy were always at the forefront. He recently recalled the power of asking how someone's day was—not for the pleasantries, but because we never know what our peers might be facing within their day-to-day lives. To show kindness to one's neighbor, to one's coworker—with vulnerable authenticity—is what it means to be a true leader, and that was Chip.
Please join us for a Celebration of Life for Chip Chalkley on Sunday, October 26, 2025.
