William Anthony Grove was born December 23, 1932 to Helen Margaret Wilkins and Harry Eccard Grove in Ashville, Ohio and passed on October 23, 2025. He graduated from Ashville Harrison High School in 1950. After graduation he enlisted in the US Army and served in the Signal Corps in New Jersey where he worked on radar and guidance systems to protect the east coast. He married Marjorie E McMaster in 1962 and they enjoyed many years of travel together.
After leaving the Army, Bill worked at Robertshaw in Columbus, Ohio and is an inventor of the Electrical Relay With Panel and Terminal Plug patented on January 18, 1966. In the 1980s, he left Robertshaw and devoted all his time to developing new methods to grow industrial crystals. In September 2024 he moved to Washington C.H. to be near his nephew, Doug Krieger.
Bill’s hobbies included calculus, physics, and electronics. With his father, he made coils and antenna coils for wireless radios. In high school he made vinyl recordings of the high school band. He enjoyed discussing his uncle, Richard Grove’s research with the Van de Graf generator at Ohio State University.
Bill is survived by Doug, and his nieces Cherryl Frye, Betsy Krieger, and Melissa Weaver. His Surviving cousins are Dan Grove and Diana Campbell.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Marge, parents, infant brother David, and sister, Virginia Ruth Krieger. Burial with military honors will be at Harrison Township Cemetery, Ashville, Ohio on Friday, November 14 @ 1:30 pm.
