Youngsue Lee Oh, 90, resident of Los Angeles, California for 4 years, previously of Lexington, Massachusetts for 21 years, passed away on Saturday September 27, 2025 with her children by her side. She is preceded in death by her husband Byung Hun Oh; brother Jin Sup Lee; brother Young Sup Lee. She is also survived by her brother Min-Sup Lee and his wife Sun-Hyang Cho in Seoul, Korea; Young Sup Lee's wife Jung Choon Lee, sisters Young Hee Joy Lee, and YoungAe Lee Tresslar and her husband Tim Tresslar; her eldest daughter Michelle Carlson and her husband Jay Carlson; her son Michael Oh and his wife Dr. Joanne Oh; grandson First Lieutenant Justin Oh in the U.S. Marine Corps, and granddaughter Karen Oh.
Born on July 22, 1935, in Seoul Korea, she was the second of six children to Sang Yong Lee and Ok Yong Lee. She graduated from Busan Girls' High School in 1953. After attending Seoul University for two years prior to transferring to study abroad at Connecticut Women's College, where she obtained a Bachelor's degree in chemistry in 1959. She married her late husband Byung Hun Oh in 1959. She obtained a Master's degree at Seoul Women's University and taught Textile Chemistry as a professor until immigrating to the US in 1981 with her family to provide better education opportunities for her two children. She lived in New Jersey and worked as a realtor before moving to Massachusetts in 1999 to spend more time with her grandchildren. She moved to Los Angeles in 2021.
She was known for easily making good friends wherever she lived or worked (nickname Mrs. Smile), and leaves behind many dear friends in New Jersey, Massachusetts neighborhoods, and at St. John's Methodist Church in Lexington where she served as a deaconess and sang in the choir. Her greatest gift to her children and grandchildren was her constant presence, encouragement and ability to see goodness in others.
A funeral service will be held Saturday October 18th at California Mortuary, 9830 Lakewood Blvd in Downey at 11 a.m. Interment service will take place on October 25th at the family plot in Fairview Cemetery in Red Bank, New Jersey.
