July 5, 1934 – November 1, 2025
After enjoying a full life, filled with much love and laughter, Yvette peacefully went home to the Lord November 1, 2025.
Yvette was born July 5th, 1934, to Arthur W. Godfrey Sr. and Leona J. Godfrey in Taftville, Connecticut, who predeceased her.
She was married in 1952 to Herbert E. Quinley. During this union they had two children, Deborah Fertman and Carrie L. Quinley.
Yvette married Alfred Ernst in 1983, and they lived their life together in Norwich, Connecticut, who predeceased her.
Yvette had an amazing talent for cake decorating. She added joy to weddings, birthdays and many special occasions with her cakes. Yvette taught cake decorating for the Norwich Adult Education and was known as the original “cake lady.” In addition to cake decorating she enjoyed the beach, playing bingo, crocheting, coloring, bowling, Elvis Presley, and socializing, but most of all she enjoyed her family.
Yvette was also an avid animal lover, and many were there to meet her at the Rainbow Bridge, especially her cat Baby Girl.
Yvette is survived by her daughters, Deborah A. Fertman (David) of Norwich and Carrie L. Quinley of Plainfield. Three grandchildren, Mel Greiner (Keri), Chad Greiner and Chelsea Elkins. Five great grandchildren, Cory, Tamryn, Gavin, Adelyn, and Ella. A great great grandson Xander and several nieces and nephews. Yvette was predeceased by two siblings, Irene Simpson (Richard) and Arthur W. Godfrey Jr. (Donna).
Anyone who had the pleasure of knowing Yvette, knew she never met a stranger as everyone was considered a friend. She will be remembered by all for her clever wit, humor and contagious smile.
Yvette had special friends who were considered family, Ruth Thibeault (John) who she was known as the French lady and David Fountaine, who kept his eye on her daily.
The family would like to thank the staff at Davis place who felt like family to her and selflessly cared for Yvette and made her last days comfortable and allowed her to pass with dignity.
All final arrangements will be private.
